Belfast, Glasgow and Dublin named fake tan capitals of the UK and Ireland
People who live in Belfast, Glasgow and Dublin are more likely to fake tan than anywhere else in the UK and Ireland, according to a new report by high-street chain Superdrug.
The research compared sales figures of tan products to see which cities had the biggest appreciation for a golden glow, with Belfast taking the top spot for the most fake tan sold.
Belfast came out number one for spend, with Glasgow second and Dublin third.
Other cities that made the top 10 include Liverpool, Newcastle, Greenock, Manchester, Cumbria, Leeds and Middlesbrough.
The figures also showed a big regional divide, with cities in Ireland and the North of England opting for the bottle, compared to their southern English counterparts who weren’t.
Those in the North of the UK are also more likely to use bronzers, the data showed.
Megan Potter, head of beauty at Superdrug, said: “The Irish have always been fans of fake tanning and this proves that they reach for the bottle more than anywhere else. When you look at the weather so far this year, you really do see a North-South divide when it comes to fake tan.
“Those in the sunny South [of England] have been enjoying the sunshine, while those in the North are definitely playing catch up using bronzers and tanners.”
Superdrug sells five bottles of fake tan every minute across the UK and Ireland.
