The new National Beauty Apprenticeship is being launched with a pilot programme, and is inviting expressions of interest from employers.
This is the first National Beauty Apprenticeship in Ireland, following the launch of the National Hairdressing Apprenticeship in 2019.
The National Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship is approved by QQI, Solas and the Further Education and Training Authority, and is recognised by the Department of Education and Skills.
It has been designed by beauty therapy industry professionals and education providers, working in partnership to create a qualification that reflects the skills required in today’s salon and spa environment.
According to Image Skillnet, the enterprise-led, training network that supports the hair, beauty and spa sector in Ireland, the programme aims to develop skilled, confident and professionally qualified beauty therapists who can work independently and competently, deliver a wide range of services, use modern technologies safely, and meet professional industry standards.
The pilot programme is being run by College of FET, Ennis Campus and participants will gain a QQI Level 6 advanced certificate in beauty therapy.
The course will take place over a minimum of 28 months, and will include two days in college and three days in the workplace.
Employers will be expected to recruit their apprentice, employ them for the full 28-month programme, pay them for both on-the-job and-off the-job training, provide workplace learning opportunities, appoint a qualified workplace mentor, and comply with all employment, health and safety, and apprenticeship regulations.
Among the benefits for employers are a €2,000 grant per apprentice per year, and the chance to train a motivated team member and build a skilled workforce.
According to Image Skillnet, the programme is an opportunity for salons and spas to develop skilled talent within their business, while contributing to the future of the beauty industry in Ireland.
