Cork salon owner honoured for charitable contribution

Joseph Byrne of Joesph’s Hair Salon in Cork was the recipient of the Business Cork Civic Award 2022 at the recent Cork Business Awards.
Now in its 15th year, the event took place in the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs, after being held over from 2020 and 2021.
As part of the awards, each year Business Cork bestows a civic award on one person or business for their outstanding contribution to the voluntary, social, civic, charitable and not-for-profit organisations in Cork.
Byrne was recognised for his exceptional record of assisting such organisations. As a business owner of a hair salon, he devotes a special day of appointments to cutting the hair of the homeless. He also organises help for families with children returning to school, and gives support to Cork Penny Dinners.
Byrne has been running his salon for 37 years and received his award with his husband Darren Kilkenny.
Meanwhile, Amy Michelle Hairdressing was named Cork Hair Team of the Year. The salon was recognised for its dedication to clients when it reopened following the lockdown. It operated longer hours to facilitate the post-Covid environment, and to ensure it was providing a consistent and safe service.
Shannen O’Sullivan of Salon 28 was named Cork Young Entrepreneur of the Year. O’Sullivan founded her salon business in 2018.
