WorldSkills Ireland 2026 took place over three days at the RDS in Dublin in September, with the event featuring 31 live competitons, including the Hairdressing Competition and the Beauty Therapy Competition, which were in the Creative Arts category.
Working under set conditions, contestants completed industry-standard tasks designed to test their practical skills, technical knowledge and ability to perform to the standards expected in their chosen profession.
Wateford College of Further Eduation (WCFE) student Simon Smith won the Hairdressing Competition, sponsored by Capital Hair & Beauty, while Emma Marron won the Beauty Therapy Competition, sponsored by Suzanne Egan Academy.
The competitions formed part of a wider programme at WorldSkills Ireland, giving thousands of visiting students the opportunity to see skilled careers in action, and gain a better understanding of what different professions involve.
WorldSkills Ireland is a Government and all-industry initiative that aims to help address Ireland’s skills needs and raise awareness of the opportunities available through apprenticeships and skills-based careers.
Meanwhile, WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 also took place in September, with Dunboyne College of Further Education student Ella Graham Harvey winning a Medal for Excellence in Beauty Therapy for Team Ireland at the event.
