Prices charged by hairdressing salons and personal grooming establishments increased in July, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The figures showed that overall inflation dropped during this period.
Hairdressing prices rose 7.3% on an annual basis, while personal grooming was 2.6% more expensive. Some of these increases were attributed to Covid-related costs and investment. Hairdressing was 6.4% more expensive month-on-month, while personal grooming prices were 1.4% higher.
The annual consumer price index figures show prices overall fell by 0.4% in the year to the end of July. On a monthly basis consumer prices fell by 0.2%, mirroring the decline seen in July 2019.
Prices on average, as measured by the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, fell by 0.6 per cent compared with July 2019, and 0.2 per cent in the month.
