Future of Blarney Hotel and Golf Resort uncertain

A total of 10 employees working at the leisure centre and spa at The Blarney Hotel and Golf Resort in Cork have reportedly been issued with temporary redundancy notices.

A further 50 hotel and golf course workers are now concerned that they could be issued similar notices.

Employers at the four-star establishment have now informed staff that it will be closed for February. Premises that are classed as vacant pay rates at a 50pc discount. The hotel has closed for the month of January in previous years but its leisure centre and gym always remained open. However, in recent weeks 10 leisure centre and spa workers were issued with temporary redundancy notices after the leisure centre and pool closed suddenly and with immediate effect. By closing throughout February the owners could save €12,000 in rates.

There has been major uncertainty surrounding the future of the hotel after this unexpectedly closure of the pool, gym and spa, particularly after an initial meeting between management and staff was postponed. There are approximately 80 people in total working in The Blarney Hotel and Golf Resort.
