Habic urges members to download new Irish Covid Tracker app

The Hair and Beauty Industry Confederation (Habic) is urging its members to download the new Irish Covid Tracker app, which was launched by the Government and HSE.

The new free app for mobile phones aims to protect people around the country, and slow the spread of coronavirus in Ireland.

According to the Government and HSE, using the app, along with the existing public health measures, will help everyone stay safe when they meet up, socialise, work or travel.

In recent weeks, Habic has been setting its members some tasks on social media to help them prepare for, and then return to, the workplace. These have included instructions on communicating with clients, managing appointments and taking time for self-care. Now the latest task is to download the Covid Tracker app.

“We are all responsible for our own wellbeing and we have all suffered so much personally and in our working lives since Covid-19 came to town,” it said. “We must act responsibly and we must do everything that we possibly can do to protect ourselves and each other.

“For the past few weeks we have been giving you some tasks to do. Initially, they were in preparation for our collective return to work and now, they are in support of you, your business, your clients and your team now that you are back at work. If you haven’t done so already, we strongly recommend that you take the time to download the app. We are in this together and together we will take back control from Covid-19.”

The app launched on 7 July and reached one million downloads within 48 hours. HSE CEO Paul Reid encouraged those who haven’t downloaded it to follow suit.

“The app comes at an important time as we begin to move about more and will support us in managing future cases,” he said.

“I would encourage those who have not yet downloaded the app to do so, and for  people who have already downloaded the app, I would ask them to share it with their friends and families. The more people who download the app, the greater its impact will be.”
