Hairdressers can remain open amid new Irish regional restrictions

Hairdressers can remain open in the three counties where regional restrictions were recently introduced for two weeks.
Regional restrictions in Kildare, Laois and Offaly came into effect on Saturday, 8 August, following an increase in cases of Covid-19 in the previous two weeks.
Residents in these three counties have been advised not to travel outside of their county in a bid to prevent transmission of the virus. People have been asked to only undertake essential travel, such as to attend medical appointments, for vital family reasons, for farming purposes or to travel to and from work that cannot be done from home.
The Government document, entitled ‘Special advice for those living in Kildare, Laois and Offaly’ noted that ‘all retail and personal services, including hairdressers’ could remain open.
The Hairdressing Council of Ireland posted an update on its social media to inform members that salons were not included in venues and services that had to close.
The Irish Spa Association also assured members they didn’t have to shut. “Notice for salons and spas in Kildare, Laois and Offaly: your businesses can continue to trade as long as you continue to comply with the return to work safely protocol,” it posted on Facebook. “Allow some time to review the document with your teams and ensure the guidance is implemented and reviewed regularly.”
