Re-entering the workplace can be difficult at any time, but more so just after having a baby. Now you have the added consideration of balancing your responsibilities as a mother with fulfilling your goals in the workplace. Our jobs offer us so much more than just income, it gives us a chance to connect outside of the home and if the idea of getting back into it, is more than a fleeting thought then I suggest carefully planning your approach to the job as much as the job itself.
Time will become your main focus. If it's not looking at the clock during the night, it will be watching the minutes disappear in the morning as you try to leave the house on time. The truth, is we badly underestimate time. Be honest with what time you need and add a little extra on, remember one minute in planning saves ten minutes in execution!
You have something to offer the workplace but what can it offer you? There needs to be more to motivate you than money and people tend to look at salaries as their main criteria when looking at jobs or the main reason to stay in their current position. I think it’s better to look for the opportunities in a career that fits the life you see yourself living. High paying careers can often come at a price!
For those of you going back to full time employment, if it’s possible build up to a full week gradually. This may not be the case with every job but it's not an unreasonable question to ask, so ask it! It gives you a chance to make the adjustment needed without putting yourself under too much pressure. Remember parents make up a lot of the current workforce and they too understand what's it's like. In reality most people love to help so don't feel alone.
