The Grafton Barber has launched its autism-friendly barbering experience, which includes a purpose-built sensory room.
Located in Walkinstown in Dublin, the DayDreamers Sensory Barbering Room is the brandchild of Amanda Masterson, who owns The Grafton Barber branch there.
As the mother of a child with autism, Masterson said she understood how overwhelming a typical grooming environment can be, so she set out to create a calm, welcoming space, where neurodiverse individuals can feel safe, respected and at ease.
“A basic haircut can be a really overwhelming experience for many children and adults with autism and sensory sensitivities – so I truly welcome this new sensory barber in Walkinstown,” said local Fianna Fáil TD Catherine Ardagh. “It’s thoughtful, inclusive and long overdue, and I want to congratulate Amanda Masterson and her team at The Grafton Barber for leading the way and creating a space where everyone can feel comfortable, understood and respected.”
According to The Grafton Barber, plans are now underway to expand the service to other Grafton Barber locations across Ireland. The company, which has over 50 outlets, said the introduction of an autism-friendly experience removes barriers and opens the door to inclusive grooming services for everyone.
