New SafeSkin platform allows consumers check if aesthetic clinics are on medical registers

Two Cork siblings have launched a platform that allows consumers to search for aesthetic clinics verified against the country’s professional medical registers.

SafeSkin.ie went live in April 2026, and recorded over 1,000 searches in its first month. The platform currently lists over 300 clinics across every county in Ireland.

Its founders said it has quickly gained traction among consumers looking for a simple way to check whether their aesthetic practitioner is registered on the Medical Council, Dental Council or NMBI register.

Every clinic in the SafeSkin directory has been independently verified by the platform’s team against Ireland’s three professional registers.

According to Dr Stephen Creedon, for clinics already on the professional registers, SafeSkin represents a straightforward competitive advantage: a free, independent verification badge that distinguishes them from unregulated providers in an increasingly crowded market.

It is now offering clinics free listings and free trials of its pro tier, which includes full profile customisation; analytics showing how many consumers have viewed their listing; a market insights dashboard; and enhanced visibility in search results, including booking options to allow users to book consultations straight from the search page.

“We built SafeSkin to protect consumers, but the clinics are the ones who make it work,” he said. “The practitioners who have invested in proper training, registration and clinical governance deserve to be found. We’ve been blown away by the interest in the first few weeks alone.”

Irish aesthetics market regulation

SafeSkin has been launched amid ongoing concern in the Irish aesthetics market. An RTÉ Investigates documentary in 2024 exposed individuals illegally handling and injecting botulinum toxin products, while the Irish Medical Council issued a formal statement in November 2025 describing unqualified administration of botulinum toxin as ‘illegal, unsafe and unacceptable’.

Dr Niamh Creedon noted that this environment creates a double challenge for registered practitioners as they are competing with unregulated providers who undercut on price, while bearing the reputational damage caused by an industry that consumers increasingly view with suspicion.

“The unregulated side of the market is dragging down the reputation of everyone in the industry,” she said. “We've spoken to so many qualified practitioners who are frustrated that they've spent years getting registered, maintaining their CPD, carrying insurance, running proper clinical environments, and then they're competing against someone who did a weekend course.

“SafeSkin exists to make that distinction visible to consumers. If you’re on the register, SafeSkin shows it. That should be a selling point, and we want to make it one.”
