Dublin nail salon Tropical Popical hosts HIV testing for Worlds Aids Day

Updated on 04th Dec 2025

A Dublin nail salon recently hosting a HIV pop-up hub ahead of Worlds Aids Day on 1 December.

Tropical Popical, in collaboration with Poz Vibe Tribe and Gay Community News (GCN), held the event, which offered friendly chats with people living with HIV, a welcoming space and HIV testing with a specific focus on women’s health. In Ireland, 20-25% of new HIV diagnoses are reported in women.

Two nurses were on hand to help with the service, while no nail appointment were necessary for anyone wanting to avail of it.

“It shouldn’t be a big deal finding out about your own health, getting tested is as easy as getting your nails done,” Tropical Popical owner Andrea Horan told RTÉ.

The Tropical Popical initiative was part of Dublin’s first World Aids Day Festival, a five-day programme of events organised by Poz Vibe Tribe and GCN.
