Hair Together opens world’s first social enterprise salon and academy in Dublin

Hair Together Salon & Academy has officially opened in Ballymun in Dublin, with the social enterprise being the first of its kind globally.

Founded in 2020 by Eileen McHugh, Hair Together provides unique programmes that combine wellbeing activities with hairstyling and barbering to support young people and adults in Ballymun and the surrounding areas.

Its goal is to help those facing challenges in finding employment or continuing their education by equipping them with valuable skills for a brighter future.

As well as going into schools and prisons, Hair Together also offers corporate team-building programmes. It is supported by a number of organisations, including Dublin City Council.

Now with a new facility in Ballymun, Hair Together Salon & Academy aims to blend excellence in professional hairdressing and barbering with purpose, using every cut, colour and style to create change.

The commercial salon trades for impact, meaning every client visit directly supports education, wellbeing and second-chance opportunities within the academy.

In a social media post, Hair Together Salon & Academy thanks everyone who helped it to reach its official opening day, with Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam cutting the ribbon.

“It wasn’t just a launch, it was a community moment in Ballymun,” it said. “This space has been built through collaboration, care and a whole lot of heart, from the amazing team behind the chairs, to the people behind the scenes, to every neighbour who popped in with kind words and the best energy.

“You reminded us why Hair Together exists in the first place: to create transformation from the inside out, confidence, opportunity, belonging and really good hair while we’re at it.”
