The Irish Hairdressing Council has announced the appointment of Debbie O’Keeffe Crinnion as president.

O'Keeffe Crinnion was previously vice-president of the organisation, and she takes over from outgoing president Maria Duffy.

The Hairdressing Council of Ireland was set up as a not-for-profit organisation to make positive changes in the industry. Among its objectives are to give career advice about the different avenues available and to lobby the Government about various issues affecting the sector.

O’Keeffe Crinnion is the owner of Montana Blu Hairdressing & Academy, based in Fermoy, Co Cork and she is also lead educator for Osmo.

“I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity that's been given to me,” she said in a social media post. “The hair industry has always been more than a job to me – since I was 14 years old, it has given me hope and a purpose. I'm extremely honoured to be elected and I will try my hardest to do right by an industry ingrained in my blood, and continue to give back. Thank you everyone who believes in me.”

Meanwhile, Fiona Gainfort is now vice-president of the Irish Hairdressing Council.
