Irish Hairdressing Council to host workshop on menopause

Published 27th Sep 2025

The Irish Hairdressing Council has annouced that its next Council Connects workshop will focus on the topic of menopause.

Taking place on Zoom at 8pm on 13 October, Talking Menopause in the Salon will aim to shine a light on menopause and perimenopause. The industry body believes that hairdressers are in a unique position to be part of the future of women’s health, as they spend hours with women in their chairs, often hearing the challenges they face long before they tell a doctor, employer or even their families.

It said that the workshop isn’t just about awareness, it’s about giving hairdressers the tools, knowledge and confidence to be part of the solution.

There are some key facts about menopause that every hair and beauty professional should know, it explained, not least because the industry workforce is dominated by females. These facts include that one in 10 women leave their jobs because of menopause; 83% of women in menopause experience sleep problems, making long shifts even harder; and 54% report mood changes, such as anxiety and irritability, which are often magnified by the demands of busy salon life.

Expert speakers at the online event include Vicki Finlay from The Menopal and Luba O’Neill from Wicklow & Kildare Mental Health. Together, they’ll offer practical advice and real-life solutions to help salon professionals better understand, support and empower women navigating this life stage.

Anyone interested in attending the workshop can register on the Irish Hairdressing Council website.
