Make-up artist and Glow Up UK finalist James Mac Inerney is set to have his inaugural Irish gallery exhibition at Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise, Co Laois, which is his home county.
Following his Glow Up UK success, Mac Inerney went on to appear as a guest judge on Glow Up Ireland and was head judge at the Make-up Competitions at Professional Beauty & Hair 2024, which took place in the RDS in Dublin in April.
His Makeup X Art exhibition is an exploration of the intersection between make-up and art, and features 20 looks that transcend conventional boundaries.
Through this showcase, he is inviting viewers to experience the enchanting and unconventional ways make-up serves as a powerful means of connection.
“In viewing these art works, you’re also gaining an insight into my own story as a young boy with a love for art, to finding a fully fledged career as an international creative director for make-up artistry,” he said.
“Make-up has been a unique outlet for dealing with my own circumstances: through escapism, through healing, through creativity. The exhibition as a whole pays homage to my family, to my extended queer family, the LGBTQIA+ community and close friends, whose belief and support have been my pillars – a foundation on which I continue to build.”
“This summer, as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations throughout 2024, we are so proud and excited to present this photography exhibition of the stunningly striking work by Laois-born make-up artist James Mac Inerney,” said Dunamaise Arts Centre director Michelle de Forge.
“We have been following his impressive international portfolio and busy career in recent years and are thrilled that he took up our invitation to host the first Irish exhibition of his work here, following his great success at Morley Gallery, London. It is fitting that Dunamaise presents this acclaimed artwork in James’ home county.
“We look forward to welcoming audiences and gallery visitors to admire the skill, artistry and beauty on display. We’re also excited to host an exclusive masterclass with James later in the season – keep in touch through our socials and newsletter for ticket sales details.’’
The exhibition, which is supported by Creative Ireland Laois, Laois County Council and The Arts Council, opens to the public on 29 June 2024.
