A Cork salon is donating all of its takings on 25 April towards helping Ukrainian families locally.

Carbon Hair Design, which is located on the South Mall in the city centre, will be offering cuts and blow-dries only on the charity day.

The initiative came about after the salon employed Daria Borshch, a Ukrainian hairdresser who recently arrived in Ireland after fleeing the war.

“We were looking for staff for a very long time,” co-owner Andy Cronin told the Irish Examiner. “But she was commuting from Killarney, where she was being housed. So we found her an apartment in Cork city. We called in some favours with clients we know who work in property.”

Cronin said the funds raised on the salon’s charity day will go towards items such as school books, Santa presents, clothing and helping with deposits for housing. And Borshch will be doing haircuts on the day to spread awareness and help other Ukrainians.

Carbon Hair Design’s neighbour The Asylum Barbershop will also be in the salon on the day, offering fresh fades and men's grooming, with all money going towards helping those affected by the war in Ukraine.
