A number of free hair and beauty training courses are now available as part of Skills Connect.

Skills Connect is an initiative developed by Skillnet Ireland to support people who are unemployed and who wish to re-join the workforce.

With the hair and beauty industry in Ireland experiencing an ongoing skills crisis, these programmes are aimed at supporting those who wish to upskill or freshen up their skills.

The free training programmes have been developed by Image Skillnet to meet the needs of both the businesses and the individuals of the sector.

They are taking place in different locations around the country. For example, there are hairdressing courses beginning this month in Davey Davey Salon in Dublin, Pelo Hairdressing Academy in Newbridge, Co Kildare and Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty in Co Kerry.

Beauty therapy courses are also commencing this month in Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School in Dublin and Beautorium Training Academy in Waterford.

Through Skills Connect, individuals can enhance their job prospects by refreshing existing skill sets and expertise, or by learning new skills.

Each programme includes practical work placements to help the individual gain confidence in their new skill. Businesses can then gain from their talents and skills.

Applicants must meet the Skills Connect eligibilty criteria and also meet the specific entry criteria for each programme. They may be shortlisted for interview in advance of places being awarded.
