New barber shop opens on Cork's Washington Street

A new barbers has opened on Washington Street in Cork, in the former home of Café Depeche in the city centre.

Hive is owned by Tyrone native Brídín Ward, who has worked in a number of salons in Cork since 2017. Ward completed a Start Your Own Business course last year with her Local Enterprise Office.

“It has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember to start my own business, so I’m absolutely thrilled that all the hard work has paid off," she told Cork Beo.

“I am hugely grateful to the staff in the Local Enterprise Office's Start Your Own Business course that I completed last year, as it gave me the tools, resources, networking opportunities and knowledge which has helped me to open Hive.”

After originally training in South West College in Tyrone and teaching in Belfast Metropolitan College, Ward also has plans to open her own academy in Hive in 2023.

Meanwhile, local barbers can become self-employed in Hive as Ward is running a chair rental scheme in her new barber shop.
