A new creative movement is hitting the Irish hair and beauty scene with the aim of bringing music and mindfulness to the sector.
According to founder Greg Clarke, Hairmony Voices is Ireland’s first choir created specifically for those in the industry, including hairdressers, barbers, nail technicians, make-up artists and salon teams.
Designed as a fun, uplifting outlet to destress and hit the high notes, it plans to champion mental wellness and community connection across the industry.
Clarke said that beyond the glamorous transformations and salon buzz, industry professionals face demanding physical hours and the emotional toll of constant client care. Hairmony Voices will offer them a dedicated space to step away from the chair, unwind and experience the proven mental health benefits of group singing.
“Our industry is fuelled by creativity and connection, but it can also be exhausting,” he noted. “We spend our days listening to others and making people feel great. Hairmony Voices is about turning that care back onto ourselves – creating a vibrant space where we can decompress, laugh, sing and build a supportive community outside the salon.”
The choir will foster wellness beyond the chair, as group singing releases endorphins, reduces stress and lowers cortisol, offering the ultimate weekly mental reset for busy stylists and therapists, he added. It will also help build industry connections as it brings together professionals from different salons, brands and disciplines to form genuine friendships and support networks.
In addition to weekly rehearsals, Hairmony Voices also intends to showcase the spirit of the Irish hair and beauty community through performances at industry events and charity initiatives.
There are no auditions or formal music reading ability to join the choir – it is designed for all skill levels, and the focus is entirely on fun, pop/contemporary harmonies and positive energy.
Registration is now officially open for Hairmony Voices founding members across Leinster to start with, and there are plans to roll it out regionally once it is established.
The initial taster sessions begin on Tuesday, 8 September at Clarke’s Amica Eco Hairdressing salon in Castleknock in Dublin.
Industry professionals past and present interested in joining, as well as brand partners looking to support the initiative, can find more information and sign up via the expressions of interest form. They can also email Clarke at [email protected] or WhatsApp on 0876484534.
