Dermalogica launches metahuman technology training tool

Dermalogica has announced the launch of Natalia, a virtual human developed as a tool to train Dermalogica skincare professionals on the science behind skin.
Drawing on photorealistic digital human technology used in the gaming industry, Dermalogica created Natalia as a training tool to be used in classes for professional skin therapists around the world.
According to the skincare brand, whilst other training tools may focus on product results or rely on static images, this form of digital human technology realistically simulates conditions such as ageing, dehydration, and sensitivity, so learners can better understand how the skin responds to natural and environmental triggers.
“We can now use metaverse technology to train millions of consumers and hundreds of thousands of therapists about changing skin conditions,” said Dermalogica’s global CEO Aurelian Lis. “It’s cool to visually show skin changes and aesthetic treatment techniques in a way previously unimaginable.”
Dermalogica’s head of education Tabby Zamani said the company is seeking to elevate its education offering by providing a fun, immersive learning environment that breaks traditional norms and allows for “higher learning, greater client care and successful business practices”.
“Natalia is brought to life through videos and VR simulations, accessible via internal channels, and marks an innovative progression from the brand’s usual method of training via real-life case studies and before-and-after comparisons,” added Zamani.
Dermalogica said it will continue to introduce new ways to use virtual human technology throughout 2022, to help educate consumers and professional skin therapists across multiple channels.
