A salon in Derry has welcomed Friends star Courteney Cox for a brow treatment.

Located on Shipquay Street in the city, Elaine Simms Phibrows Master is both a salon and training academy that specialises in phibrows and permanent make-up techniques.

Cox is a regular client, having visited the salon previously. The LA-based actress is in a relationship with Derry native Johnny McDaid, who is a member of the band Snow Patrol. The pair often travel to his home city for holidays and special occasions.

Simms shared a photo on Instragram of herself and Cox, along with an image of Cox’s newly-treated brows.

“Today was a good day,” she posted. “It’s such a privilege to have the beautiful Courteney Cox in for her annual brow top-up.”

Simms told the Belfast Telegraph that Cox encouraged her to share a photo on social media, saying that Simms could tell whoever she wanted that she had been in to have her brows done.

Celebrity salons visits are good for business, with a Dublin nail salon benefitting from a star endorsement some years ago. Tropical Popical on South William Street hit the  international headlines in 2015 when Saoirse Ronan got news of her Golden Globe nomination while in there.

Her subsequent appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s TV show in the US mentioning the salon three times went viral, as did another few mentions on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

Owner Andrea Horan told The Irish Times that the effects were immediate on social media, and that for a small business it was the “sort of endorsement money can’t buy”.
