A new sustainability advocate programme for salons has been created by Image Skillnet and sustainability experts Change by Degrees.
Image Skillnet and the Hair and Beauty Industry Confederation (Habic) recently launched a sustainability strategy for the hair and beauty industry. The Sustainability Strategy and Action Framework was developed with Change by Degrees, which partners with businesses and organisations to deliver sustainable solutions that aim to help them increase their value, reduce costs, maximise employee satisfaction and meet their regulatory requirements.
The new free course, which is now available online, explores sustainable practices and strategies that salon businesses can undertake in order to help build a better future for the planet.
According to Image Skillnet, a sustainable business aims to operate in a way that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. With the hair and beauty industry using large amounts of energy, water, plastic and chemicals, and producing large amounts of waste, it has the power to make a huge environmental difference by reducing its consumption, improving its bottom line in the process.
The training network noted that everyone has a role to play in protecting the environment and ensuring it flourishes for future generations; no action is too small, and no idea should go unexplored, because individual action leading to collective action drives positive change and makes resilient communities and sectors.
The course consists of video content, along with a comprehensive resource pack. Businesses can learn about reducing energy usage, managing water sustainably and reducing waste.
Upon completion and successful assessment, participants will earn a badge and certificate, recognising their commitment to sustainable living and practices, which they can then communicate to clients.
