Ireland’s first LGBTQ+ barbershop and salon Queer Hawk has announced it is opening a second location in Dublin.
The original Queer Hawk opened in Temple Bar at the beginning of this year. The brainchild of Irish-Brazilian couple Thiago Mulligan and Kiro Rodrigues, its mission is to provide an environment where everyone feels respected, safe, happy, free and included.
The pair said their business is a space that is dedicated to the care and wellbeing of all clients, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Not just a barbershop and salon, it is also a community space for people to have coffee and chats, they added.
The name Queer Hawk comes from the Irish slang term ‘quare hawk’, which refers to someone who is a bit unusual or eccentric. “It’s a lighthearted way of describing someone who stands out in their own unique way,” explained Rodrigues.
The second Queer Hawk branch is set to be bigger, and will also have an expanded menu.
“Queer Hawk is growing and in addition to our home in Temple Bar, we are excited to be opening a brand new nest at 25 Liffey Street Upper – and it’s serving three fabulous floors of pure, unfiltered queer joy,” it said in a social media post.
“As well as the things you’re used to like killer cuts, colouring and community, we will be expanding our services to include nails, eyebrows, beauty and more.”
