New Spare Chair platform to fill empty salon appointments launching

A new AI-powered booking optimisation platform that is designed to fill empty salon appointments is set to launch in May.

Founded by Luke Mulhall, Spare Chair is aimed at salons, barbers, beauty therapists and wellness professionals who want to maximise revenue, while reducing unfilled slots. It is also promising to improve clients’ access to services.

Among the features on the platform are scheduling tools, automated reminders and real-time availability updates. It can also offer off-peak discounts to attract more clients during quieter times, and give personalised service recommendations to keep clients coming back.

“We’re really excited about bringing something new to the beauty and wellness industry,” said Mulhall. “We use dynamic pricing and real-time insights to make sure businesses get the most out of their schedules, while clients can access last-minute, discounted appointments. By using smart scheduling, we help them maximise use of their off-peak times, while offering clients better value and real savings on their favourite treatments.”

Mulhall has a background in accounting and says he has always examined businesses in terms of numbers. “I look at what’s working, what’s not working and where the opportunities lie. One thing I couldn’t help but notice was empty chairs in salons and barbershops, even at times when you’d expect them to be packed. I started chatting with business owners and quickly realised that, despite strong demand, they were struggling with underutilised appointment slots.”

He says that Spare Chair is built for both businesses and clients. “For businesses, it’s an effortless way to fill quieter periods, attract new clients and increase revenue, without extra marketing efforts. And for clients, it helps them save money on beauty and wellness treatments, while still enjoying premium services.”
